John Stuart is a Distinguished University Professor of Architecture and Associate Dean for Strategic Communication and Alliances at Florida International University’s College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts. His career is defined by crossing boundaries—between disciplines, communities, and technologies—to find creative solutions to complex problems.
Early work with Zaha Hadid, I. M. Pei, and Gaetano Pesce sparked a form of inquiry rooted in curiosity, innovation, and context, which continues to shape his leadership and research today. At FIU, he drives strategic partnerships, communication initiatives, and collaborative negotiations as a long-serving member of the administration’s Bargaining Team with the FIU-UFF, drawing on his service as Ombuds for department chairs while in the Office of the Provost.
His current research explores the intersection of AI and ethics, including his co-authored EDUCAUSE paper “Ethics is the Edge,” which positions technology as both a challenge and an opportunity for more responsible futures.
Beyond the university, John brings this same commitment to civic life as Chair of the Board of the Ocean First Institute and member of the Executive Board of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce, bridging cultural stewardship, environmental conservation, and community collaboration into a shared vision of impact.
